The BioBéarn methanization unit, the largest in France, was commissioned in Mourenx (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on Thursday January 12, 2023. It has an annual production capacity of 160 GWh. Initially scheduled to enter service in mid-December, BioBéarn finally injected its first megawatt hours into Teréga’s gas transmission network on Thursday January 12, 2023. With an annual production capacity of up to 160 GWh, this is the largest French biogas unit now in operation. By way of comparison, the majority of agricultural injection biogas plants have a capacity of less than 15 GWh/year.
