  • Last year Ruby Rose gave up her big role as Kate Kane aka Batwoman.

  • The reason given by the Australian actress at the time was, among other things, a back operation.

  • Now, however, she reveals that the costume also played a major role.

Actress Ruby Rose surprisingly announced her departure from the DC Comics series “Batwoman” last year after only one season. The 35-year-old played the leading role of superhero Kate Kane aka Batwoman. Only now, however, does Ruby reveal that her costume was one of the main reasons for her departure: “Ask those who have played a superhero before. This really isn’t the fun part. “

On the Australian radio show «The Kyle and Jackie O Show» she says she got itchy and bad rash from wearing her bat mask. Her reaction to the material was so severe that she looked like “from a scary movie”. The material of the face covering was to blame for this.

“I found out that I am allergic to latex,” explains the Australian and explains: “It got worse and worse because the more contact you have with it, the more your skin reacts to it.” So one day after filming she got hives all over her face. “My neck was totally disfigured,” Ruby recalls.

Back surgery contributed to the decision

When the actress announced last year that she will no longer be part of the second season of “Batwoman”, she has not yet announced the reason for her exit. She later told the US magazine “Entertainment Weekly” that a back operation made her do it.

“I had my surgery and went back to work ten days later, which may not have been the best idea … It was time for me to take a break to heal completely,” Ruby said at the time.

The US actress Javicia Leslie (34) Eventually followed in her footsteps and starred as Ryan Wilder, successor to former Batwoman Kate Kane, between January and June of this year. Javicia is expected to take on the role in the upcoming third season as well.
