The Angels – US Border Patrol agents found a seven-year-old girl abandoned by an immigrant smuggler on Tuesday morning in the El Centro, California sector.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) explained in a statement that agents observed on surveillance cameras a man with the minor clinging to his back while holding onto the top of the border fence at approximately 9:25 a.m. o’clock California local time.
Helped by a rope, the smuggler lowered the little girl to American soil, the statement detailed.
CBP explained that The agents decided as a “precaution” to wait for the girl to be safely on the ground before approaching, since the trafficker could panic and drop the child when he saw the authorities.
Agents came to the rescue and found the 7-year-old girl, a native of El Salvador. The minor said that the smuggler told her to walk north, the statement said.
Gregory K. Bovino, head of the Border Patrol in the El Centro sector said in the statement that “No one, least of all a child of any age or race, should be exposed to the multitude of dangers encountered when crossing illegally into this country.”
Added that “Smugglers will always view children as a commodity for profit, regardless of the safety and well-being of any individual.”
The little girl was transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be medically evaluated.
