The Washington Police have announced that they are offering a reward of $ 60,000 (almost 51,000 euros) for the perpetrator of a shooting that has killed a child under the age of six and left five adults injured.

The event took place on Friday, a little after 11 p.m. (local time) in the Congress Heights neighborhood of the US capital, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, reports the ABC network.

The victims of the incident were on the sidewalk between Martin Luther King Júnior avenues and Malcom X avenues, located in the southeast of the city, when the shooter passed through the area aboard a vehicle, as reported by the chief of Police, Robert Contee.

Three men and two women, all of them adults, were injured and treated in hospitals in the area for injuries of a weak nature, while the minor died of gunshot wounds.

At the moment the causes and circumstances of the shooting are unknown and there are no suspects, although the mayor of the District of Columbia, Muriel Bowser, has asserted that they will find out who killed the minor.

For its part, the city police has released images of the vehicle in which the alleged perpetrator of the event was driving and has called for citizen collaboration to find the person responsible.

“I know there are many good people in this community who will not tolerate senseless violence, and together we will do whatever it takes to close this case in a swift and professional manner,” added Contee.
