Yosida Vanegas, mother of political prisoner Juan Carlos Monasterios, was transferred this Monday afternoon to the National Institute of Women’s Guidance (INOF) located in Los Teques, Miranda state, after being missing for 33 days.
The organization Justice and Process Venezuela confirmed the information on
«Yosida should not be imprisoned. There is no evidence in the file that incriminates her. She is just the mother of Sgt. Juan Carlos Monasterios who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the Dron case,” the NGO wrote.
The 67-year-old woman was held at the main headquarters of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) in Boleíta, east of Caracas. Relatives reported that they were prohibited from visiting and receiving medical attention.
Association for crime and financing of terrorism
Alberto Mamoine, lawyer handling the case, in conversation with Effect Cocuyo revealed that the government of Nicolás Maduro charged Yosida with the crimes of criminal association and financing of terrorism.
He explained to the digital media that he filed a habeas corpus and an action for constitutional protection on August 20, but the judge of the First Control Court declared the appeal inadmissible. The authorities also do not allow them to access Vanegas’ file or inform them about his place of confinement.
Vanegas was detained by alleged officers of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence on August 15 at a checkpoint in the border town of La Pedrera, in the state of Táchira, apparently for no reason and without an order. She would have been transferred to the Dgcim headquarters in Boleíta in Caracas, but those close to her have not confirmed it.
Juan Carlos Monasterios, son of the missing woman, is accused of participating in the attack on Fort Paramacay in 2017. Also of leading the alleged drone attack against Nicolás Maduro in 2018.
