These series and films are coming to Netflix, Disney+ and cinemas in May

May is packed with long-awaited series and films. This is how the fourth season of “Stranger Things” starts, the “Star Wars” spin-off “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the superhero film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

«Stranger Things»

Six months have passed since the Battle of Starcourt. Struggling with the aftermath, the Stranger Things friends are separated for the first time. They’re trying to cope with life as high school students about to graduate when a new terrifying supernatural threat emerges.

With the answer to the gruesome riddle that this danger poses, the horror of the other side can finally be put to an end.

The first part of Season 4 will be available on Netflix from May 27th. The second part comes on July 1st.

«Love, Death & Robots»

The animated anthology “Love, Death & Robots” continues in May. The new episodes deal with the discovery of an ancient evil power up to the comedic apocalypse and combine terror, fantasy but also beauty.

The third season – or Volume 3 – of “Love, Death & Robots” will be released on Netflix on May 20th.


Based on the true story, this six-part series tells the story of Swedish bank robber Clark Olofsson (played by Bill Skarsgård). Olofsson coined the term Stockholm Syndrome. Because despite numerous charges of drug trafficking, bank robbery and even attempted murder, he got all of Sweden to like him. Olofsson is one of Sweden’s most controversial personalities.

Clark is coming to Netflix on May 5th.

«Wild Babies»

Surviving in the wild isn’t easy – it’s even harder as a baby animal. And that’s exactly what this documentary is about. While some enjoy carefree playtime with their siblings, others struggle to survive. The documentary gives insights into the life and behavior of various baby animals.

“Wild Babies” will be available on Netflix from May 5th.

«The Pentaverate»

This comedy asks the question: what if there were a five-man secret society that had been busy shaping world events for the common good since the plague of 1347?

A journalist becomes involved in a mission to uncover the truth and maybe even save the world. But: The Pentavirate must never be revealed.

«The Pentaverate» will be available from May 5th.

«The Lincoln Lawyer»

In the series The Lincoln Lawyer, attorney Mickey Haller is forced to take over the law firm when his former partner is murdered. The cases also include a high-profile murder trial. Mickey works best on his cases from the back seat of his car – a Lincoln Town Car.

Launch on Netflix is ​​May 13th.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series takes place 10 years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when Obi-Wan suffered his greatest defeat to date; his friend and Jedi apprentice Anaking Skywalker turned to the dark side. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan lives on the planet Tatooine under the name Ben Kenobi and makes sure that Luke Skywalker grows up safely. But the empire is not far away here either, and dangers are constantly lurking.

Ewan McGregor returns as Obi-Wan and also serves as the series’ producer.

The first two episodes will be broadcast on May 27th. After that, there will be another episode every week.

«The Quest: Heroes for Everealm»

In this series, a group of teenagers land in the fictional world of Everealm. To save the kingdom, they must fulfill an ancient prophecy.

The eight episodes will be available on Disney Plus from May 11th.

«Night Sky»

The married couple Franklin and Irene York discover a secret chamber in their garden in the sci-fi series “Night Sky”. This opens a gate to a strange and distant planet. For years they keep this secret until a mysterious man enters their lives and they realize that the gate is much more than they ever thought.

The series starts on May 20th.


«The Time Travelers’s Wife»

The series «The Time Traveler’s Wife» is a remake of the novel of the same name. Henry (played by Theo James) suffers from a genetic disorder that allows him to undertake uncontrollable time travel. It can therefore disappear at any time without any warning. As a result, his relationship with his wife Claire (played by Rose Leslie), who has to wait for Henry and does not know where and when he is and if he is in danger, suffers.

The Swiss premiere of the series is on May 16th on Sky Show.

“The boat”

«Das Boot» tells the story of a young submarine crew who are sent on a dangerous mission. In the process, they get caught up in the Battle of the Atlantic and are being hunted by a possessed Royal Navy commander. Strong alliances form within the crew.

Meanwhile, in neutral Lisbon, Hagen Forster uncovers a deadly plot for looted wartime gold. As he begins to question his own actions and moral path, he encounters a shadowy figure involved in a conspiracy. This could turn the war for the better.

The third season of “Das Boot” starts on May 14th.

Tamar Rabinyan is a Mossad hacker agent who is smuggled into Tehran under a false identity to help destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor. But the mission fails and she is trapped in a new life. In the second season, her undercover mission continues.

The second season starts on May 6th.

«The Essex Serpent»

This series is also based on Sarah Perry’s novel of the same name and is set in Victorian London. Widow Cora Seaborne travels to a small village on the Essex coast and is fascinated by the local legend of a mystical serpent. She meets the vicar William Ransome and begins a relationship with him. But when disaster strikes in the village, Cora is accused of luring the snake and arousing the beast’s wrath.

Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston star in the lead roles.

The Essex Serpent will be available on Apple TV+ on May 13th.

“A Planet Before Time”

The series presents little-known facts about the life of dinosaurs. Viewers are taken 66 million years into the past with visual effects.

Jon Favreau co-produced this documentary series with the creators of “Planet Earth” (BBC). Using the latest findings from paleontology and state-of-the-art technology, it shows the spectacular habitats and inhabitants of the prehistoric earth. David Attenborough serves as narrator.

“A Planet Before Time” will be available on Apple TV+ from May 23.


«Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness»

In “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Doctor Strange performed a spell that would make the whole world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. But he made a mistake and dangers of the multiverse have come to earth. Strange embarks on a perilous journey through the alternate realities of the multiverse.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Doctor Strange. Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong also reprise their roles as Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch and Wong, respectively. New to the cast is Xochitl Gomez, who plays America Chavez and accompanies Strange on his travels.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will be shown in Swiss cinemas from May 4th.

“The deception”

The year is 1944, D-Day is imminent. But the Allies fear a massacre if their troops land unprotected – “Operation Mincemeat” is born. A ruse is designed to trick the Germans into believing that the invasion of Italy will take place in Greece instead.

The film is based on Ben Macintyre’s book, Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis and Assured an Allied Victory, which tells the true story of World War II.

The historical drama will be released in Swiss cinemas on May 26th.


This documentary film is about the poison attack on the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in 2020. The documentary works through this incident, its background and consequences with interviews and archive recordings.

Theatrical release is May 5th.

«Top Gun: Maverick»

Tom Cruise returns to the screen after 30 years as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The sequel to “Top Gun” has been in the planning for over 10 years. Maverick is to train a group of young pilots and prepare them for a special mission. Also in this group is Bradley Bradshaw, son of the late Nick Bradshaw, a friend of Maverick. But Bradley (played by Miles Teller) doesn’t trust Maverick the way his father did.

Theatrical release: May 26th.
