These are the January 2022 game releases

God of War Ragnarok is due out sometime this year: the sequel to the reboot of the God of War franchise that came out for PS4 in 2018. Sony already released some exclusive titles on PC last year, so God of War comes just at the right time to get in the mood for the sequel! Although Ragnarok will not immediately appear on PC, PC players with God of War will have a gem from January 14th.

In God of War, players once again take on the role of anti-hero Kratos, who left for Norway years after his revenge on the Greek Gods. Right at the start of the game you notice that Kratos is no longer quite the Kratos we used to know. He is calmer, bears a huge responsibility for his son Atreus and he has exchanged his iconic Blades of Chaos for the Leviathan Axe. Fortunately, Kratos also knows how to keep a good house with this large ax and that provides eye-catching combat when you brutally cleave your enemies one by one.

Of course, Kratos does not stay under the radar for long and he soon runs into several Norse Gods. Mimir, Baldur, Magni and even Thor are all featured, so get ready for some spirited battles that will have the action splashing off your monitor! If you’ve got a hefty gaming PC at home, do yourself a favor and get God of War, because with 4k resolutions and unlocked framrates, the game can only be more beautiful than on the old PS4 hardware.

Rainbow Six Siege is still a huge success and from January 20th we will find out whether Extraction will be just as fun or maybe even better. Originally, Extraction mode was a mod for Rainbow Six Siege and it was such a hit that developer Ubisoft decided to build an entire game around it.

In Rainbow Six Extraction, Ubisoft takes a slightly different approach, where Siege is all about PvP action, Extraction is a true co-op game where you take on the Archaeans in a team of three players, a race of mutating aliens that plague the world with their presence. It’s our job to kill those beasts with always that one dilemma in mind: continue playing, or extract with all your experience points?

In Rainbow Six Extraction, all known Operators from Siege return, each with their own special abilities. It is therefore essential to adjust your Operator to the choices of your friends, otherwise you will not survive those five different rounds. We wonder if Rainbox Six Extraction will stay as fun as Siege. Let’s hope so!

Lightning fast action, countless explosions and a high sci-fi feel: that’s about how we can best describe Blackwind. The top-down action game will be released on January 20 and follows the story of James Hawkings, a teenager who travels across the universe in the spaceship Pandora. When his ship is shot down, Hawkings must get into a prototype combat armor to stand any chance of survival. That is promising…

Judging by the images, the action seems to steal the show in Blackwind, because despite the many enemies that are fired at you, the combat never seems to get chaotic. With the power of the new consoles and the PC, Blackwind seems to come into its own best, because the frame rates on those platforms excel.

In Blackwind, your mission is to find your missing father in a merciless universe and it looks like it won’t be an easy task. If you’re a fan of indie games and the sci-fi genre, Blackwind is definitely one to keep an eye out for!

Less than two months ago, we were treated to the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, two classic Pokémon adventures from the Nintendo DS era. Developer GameFreak is going to take a whole new tack with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, giving players complete freedom of movement in the 3D world. However, the objective of the game is essentially still the same: to capture pokémon and complete Sinnoh’s first Pokédex.

The way you catch this pokémon in Legends: Arceus is very different from what we’re used to. You don’t have to fight with your own pokémon, but can study the wild animals, quietly sneak towards them and then throw a Pokéball at the monster. The pokémon are also a lot wilder than in the previous games, so it will be quite a challenge to tame those critters!

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set in the distant past in the Sinnoh region. We still know this region from Diamond and Pearl, but it differs greatly in Arceus from the region we already know. For example, players run into a lot of pokémon from other regions and the gadgets such as Pokéballs also work slightly differently than we are used to. That is partly why we can’t wait to get started with Arceus and we are curious whether the game leaves a good and fresh impression in the Pokémon franchise.

Sony is busy with re-releases in the first month of the year, because in addition to God of War for PC, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for PlayStation 5 will also be released. This bundle contains two games for the price of one, namely Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Both games previously appeared for the PS4, but are now optimized for the PS5 with better graphics and framerates.

In Uncharted 4, players will experience the final adventure of Nathan Drake, the main character of the Uncharted series. Years after his previous adventure, Drake has become a real family man and maintains a quiet life with a normal job. But his peaceful existence is short-lived as Nate is approached by his brother Sam, who is in mortal danger. You guessed it: the Drake brothers go on a treasure hunt to put an end to their adventurous outings once and for all.

The Lost Legacy is a spin-off in which we don’t take on the role of Drake for a change, but that of Chloe Frazier. This tough lady made her first appearance in Uncharted 2 and in this spin-off she heads to India to track down Ganesh’s lost golden tusk. Uncharted wouldn’t be Uncharted if it didn’t go smoothly, so get ready for action, adventure and great environments.

Both games are coming to Sony’s new console for the first time and have been excellent games in their own right, so with the power of the PlayStation 5, this can only be a delightful bundle!
