This paint could be a red herring. Sao Paolo Lime, that’s what the neon yellow says in the Genesis price list, and if you don’t notice this GV60, you can’t help it either. It’s getting boring with electric cars, e-mobility skeptics doubt – because all models of a brand are based on the same technology, how bland. Does the dose of lemon yellow cover up suspected boredom?
Wrong, no boredom. After the technically almost identical Stromers Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, Hyundai’s luxury brand brings the best of the trio to the end. The GV60 combines both virtues – 800-volt technology for rapid charging to 80 percent in 18 minutes, plenty of space, full equipment -, only it is packaged more elegantly and peppered with details that the sister models lack.
Driving with a crystal ball
When starting, a glass ball sinks into the center console and releases the rotary switch for the direction of travel. gimmick? Parental controls too, says Genesis. The GV60 inflates the side bolsters if necessary to prevent slipping around on the seats. And for an extra charge, he looks backwards with a camera instead of a mirror. For once, this is not annoying here because the associated monitors are clearly visible. You get used to looking back like a movie. The interior looks proper, even if some aluminum optics turns out to be plastic.

On a test lap through the German Taunus, the basic model with 229 hp on the rear axle is already impressive. The large 77.4 kilowatt hour battery for a range of 517 kilometers is always on board; nevertheless, the GV60 remains under two tons curb weight and drives quite sporty.
Genesis has only been with us since last summer – but compared to the GV60, the combustion engines GV80 and Co. seem almost a bit dusty. If the Ioniq 5 seems too wide-legged and technoid and the EV6 too baroque, the more European Genesis should suit you. Surprising: In the base it is from 53,000 francs below the EV6 – but it still needs extra support for options to get to the same level. The all-wheel drive top version with 325 hp then starts from 77,700 francs – a good 10,000 francs ahead of the equally powerful Kia.
