The first images of the Spider-Man that will soon be integrated into the PlayStation versions of Marvel’s Avengers are available. And they really don’t do the superhero credit.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players will finally be able to embody, on November 30, Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers – huge Square Enix project which unfortunately goes from disappointment to disappointment. And the superhero may well be one more, judging by the first gameplay video unveiled on November 22 by IGN.

The media got to try out the character before everyone else, the chance to find out that the Spider-Man from Marvel’s Avengers hurts, when compared to that of the games Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man : Miles Morales (two adventures exclusive to Sony consoles). Fortunately, it will be free.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man is nothing to envy

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have decided to make Spider-Man an exclusive for the PS4 and PS5 versions of Marvel’s Avengers. We could deplore this choice, since it deprives the players and Xbox / PC players of an important member of the cast. But the images are not likely to make those concerned regret: this Spider-Man is nothing very exciting. Its movements are rigid and, at times, it gives the impression of typing in the void in a very choppy rhythm.

In its preview, IGN indicates that Spider-Man is very reminiscent of Black Panther in the same game, but more vivid. He still has three powers of his own: a web bomb, a drone and a giant woven ball capable of doing heavy damage. If the journalist believes that the fighting remains exhilarating, he cannot say the same for air travel. They obviously don’t have anything very realistic: for example, Spider-Man can hang… on an invisible glass ceiling (like the old Spider-Man games).

In Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man : Miles Morales, the superhero must navigate with the physical constraints of the terrain (cling to the real surfaces that surround him, often offered by buildings), which makes the walks much more interesting. In defense of Crystal Dynamics, the studio did not design the environments for Marvel’s Avengers with gameplay specifically designed for Spider-Man. This further questions its place in the game beyond the announcement effect. Moreover, the developers have not written any dedicated mission to it (it is introduced very quickly).

Proof that the Spider-Man de Marvel’s Avengers does not convince: the IGN video shows nearly 2,000 dislikes for 11,000 likes. A ratio far from brilliant for a character usually very appreciated.
