The president of Panama announces that he suffers from an intermediate-risk type of cancer that affects the blood

The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, reported this Monday that he suffers from a type of cancer that affects the blood, intermediate-risk myelodysplastic syndrome.

“Everything was fine in May, with the exception of a dysfunction in the hemoglobin and in the white blood cell count. As a result of this, my family doctor recommended that I see doctors Franceschi and Diaz. They both considered doing a biopsy, the samples They were sent to a laboratory in the United States,” Cortizo said, adding that on the recommendation of his doctors he will undergo a second, more specialized evaluation in Houston, in the United States.

Cortizo has pointed out that the situation of his state of health will be communicated to the population when necessary, as reported by ‘Panamá América’.

“I make public knowledge that, following medical recommendations, on July 1, 2022, after the Report to the Nation, I will be traveling to Texas for a specialized evaluation, after I was diagnosed with intermediate-risk myelodysplastic syndrome,” he declared in his Twitter profile the Panamanian president.
