In its four generations so far, the look of the Kia Sportage has changed radically again and again. The fifth edition, which will start this year, also follows this tradition.
The Korean manufacturers are currently stepping on the gas. Not only does Hyundai not only offer internal combustion engines, but also hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and hydrogen models – the Koreans are also pumping forward when it comes to market presence. The new electronics subsidiary brand Ioniq has just been launched and the classy sub-brand Genesis has been launched on the European markets at the same time. And on their new modular e-drive platform, the Koreans are currently bringing electric models such as the Ioniq 5 or the Kia EV6 onto the market, which are terrifying the competition.
But development does not stop with the existing model series either. Kia has just published the first pictures of the new Sportage – and shows that the design language introduced for the EV6 called “Opposites United” will also be adopted for models with conventional drive in the future. The fifth generation of the compact SUV remains true to its proportions, but the detailed front section with striking light elements and a reinterpretation of the tiger nose grille, which is now referred to as the “Digital Tiger Face”, give the popular SUV a completely new look. The tail lights that reach into the tailgate and are connected by a continuous strip create a distinctive LED light graphic at the rear.
The interior is also much fresher with a colorful mix of materials. A large digital instrument cluster and a huge touchscreen for the infotainment system characterize the cockpit. The Koreans want to communicate further details, such as the drives, technology and prices, at a later date.
