With its XXL transfer window, the Saudi Arabian championship continues to make people talk. If the clubs are clearly progressing, the level still raises questions.
In recent weeks, several stars who have joined theSaudi Arabia did not hide that they were largely motivated by the financial aspect. Despite the arrival of these big names in European football, the championship continues to arouse skepticism about its level of play.
At a press conference, a journalist pointed out to Walid Reragui that he had selected five players from the Saudi championship, in comparison with the two players from the Jupiler Pro League and the Eredivisie (Bilal El Khannouss from Genk and Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven).
The coach replied with his usual outspokenness: “The Saudi championship exceeds, in level, those of the Belgium and the Netherlands. When I observe the players playing in this league, the overall level is considerably high,” he said.
