Leading American boxing observers almost simultaneously informed that the match scheduled for May 14 in Los Angeles (USA) in the contractual weight limit between the ex-world champion age Russian Sergei “Crusher” Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) and unbeaten boxer from China Fanlong Meng (17-0, 10 KOs) will not take place.
The event was to headline a card from the series Triller Fight Club, but the Chinese boxer did not like the fact that streaming was “wasting time.” Meng has already accepted another offer – in a show from Probox Promotions will fight with the ex-world champion and ex-opponent of Kovalev, veteran from Canada Jean Pascal (35-6-1, 20 KOs) – he has not entered the ring since December 2019, as he was caught using illegal drugs. The Pascal vs Maine fight will take place in the spring (possibly May 20).
It is possible that Kovalev will still box on May 14 – they are urgently looking for an opponent. Strongly interested in the fight of his ex-teammate in Main Events Kathy Duva Cuban veteran Sullivan Barrera (22-4, 14 KOs). He
posted on social media: “Let me fight with Kovalev.”
Interestingly, the Kovalev vs Barrera fight was supposed to take place in April 2020, but the show had to be canceled due to the pandemic. The parties tried to agree on a new date, but something went wrong. The Cuban said: From Sergei Kovalev not a word or a breath. I hope I didn’t swell … And then I added that the Russian has always been slightly insane …
