The influenza virus dropped out of the news agenda, although it mutates faster than COVID-19 – expert – Vladivostok News on

Coronavirus mutations occur much more slowly than the flu virus, despite the regular emergence of new strains. TASS reported about it Andrey Isaev, founder and general director of the Scientific Center for Molecular Genetic Research DNKOM… According to him, despite the fact that today the COVID-19 pandemic remains in the spotlight, 60 million Russians are planning to vaccinate against influenza this year.

“Fortunately, the coronavirus mutates much more slowly than the flu. And because of the latter, pandemics are announced in our country every year, and many people are vaccinated against the flu. This year alone, despite the fact that the influenza virus has dropped out of the news agenda, Rospotrebnadzor plans to vaccinate 60 million Russians with influenza vaccines, ”Isaev said.

At the same time, according to the expert, it is simply impossible to stop the mutations of the coronavirus.

“We have never been able to slow down the evolution around us, so talking about the possibilities of stopping the mutation of covid is unscientific. Therefore, it will always mutate. But unlike other types of viruses, its mutations occur rather slowly. Yes, new strains appear all the time. But in fact, over a year and a half, the coronavirus has changed three arginines in the receptor-binding domain (RBD-domain), which, in my opinion, is ridiculous to call a rapid mutation, ”the agency’s interlocutor explained.

Recall that in the fall of 2020, it was planned to vaccinate about 1.1 million Primorye residents against influenza. As the head of the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor Tatyana Detkovskaya noted then, over the period 2019-2020 in Primorye, more than 241 thousand people fell ill with an epidemic rise in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. The epidemic affected 13.2% of the region’s population.

Note that today more than 290 thousand people have already been vaccinated against coronavirus in Primorye alone. At the same time, this process begins to grow overgrown with scandals: for example, the police stopped the activities of a group of people who prepared fake documents on vaccination against COVID-19, the Ussuriysk city hospital also carried out a check due to reports of the issuance of suspicious certificates and fake medical records. How the new wave of coronavirus is proceeding with a record number of patients and deaths and how to stop it, Elena Novitskaya, the head physician of the Dalzavodsk hospital, told correspondents.
