While the uncertainty remains as to the sale of Sainté, the club has just made an important decision. This concerns one of the legends of ASSE. In a press release published on Wednesday, the Forez club announced the withdrawal of number 24 long worn by Loïc Perrin.
“Today, the club has decided to remove this number from its locker room, it will not be worn by any other player from AS Saint-Étienne. He is and will remain the number 24 of our emblematic captain. Loïc is unique, Loïc is irreplaceable, Loïc is Green for life ”, we can read in particular.
Perrin, a living legend among the Greens
Retired since 2020, Loïc Perrin spent 17 seasons atAS Saint-Etienne, his training club. He also donned the armband for 13 seasons. In total, the former central defender played 470 games with ASSE. The club and Le Coq Sportif, its equipment supplier, will market 470 copies of a collector’s jersey in tribute to the iconic Saint-Etienne captain. Which won a Ligue 2 title in 2004 and a Coupe de la Ligue in 2013. For his last, Perrin was even close to lifting a new trophy with his long-standing club. But he ended up by the back door. The legendary number 24 from Saint-Etienne was expelled in the final of the Coupe de France lost against Paris Saint-Germain (1-0). An outing that in no way taints his remarkable career with the Greens. He is also one of the 13 life ambassadors of Saint-Étienne.
