Georgino Wijnaldum It is (or was it?) one of the dream signings of FC Barcelona to reinforce the center of the field during this summer. Last year, when Ronald Koeman became manager of the Blaugrana, the club began to test his transfer from Liverpool, but the economic situation played a key role and it was impossible to carry out the operation, despite the insistence of the Dutch technician.
For this transfer window, Joan Laporta and company they had practically tied the midfielder and, in fact, his agents had met at the Camp Nou to get a deal, which seemed like it was completely closed until two days ago, when Paris Saint-Germain ‘got into’ the negotiations and made a much more offer. juicy than Barça … Impossible to refuse for Wijnaldum.
From overnight the panorama took a 180 degree turn for Barça, who saw the Dutch move away more than ever for economic reasons. In principle, the intention of the culés was to remain firm and ‘convince’ the player based on the opportunities he may have within the Camp Nou, but the player, apparently, is ‘moved’ more by the financial issue, a field that Barça is not able to tread.
It had been reported that PSG’s offer was double that of the Catalans and that, aware that it would be impossible to match, Barça took a step back and abandoned the race for Wijnaldum, with no option to get his transfer. From there, it came to light that the agreement between the Parisians and Wijnaldum would already be ready and that in the next two weeks it will become official, so he would pass his medical tests to stop at the Parc des Princes after this summer’s European Championship.
The alternatives of the Barça
With things as they are, the Barça team has one option left: turn the page and start a process to get a ‘stronger’ midfield. The good news, in any case, is that they have Ilaix Moriba, the young Barça star who has already taken his first steps in the first team and who has dazzled everyone with his technical quality and physical potential.
Wijnaldum’s ‘sit-in’ would lead Barça to increase its efforts to renew Ilaix’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2022. The midfielder, who recently changed agents, has asked for a more convincing agreement, so the Catalans will have to do their best to retain him, considering whate from the Premier League they have shown a lot of interest in getting their card.
