At least 12 people, most of them members of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, died on Tuesday in the Gaza Strip and some 20 were injured by the intense shelling by the Israeli Air Force on the Palestinian enclave.

According to various reports in Palestinian newspapers, among those killed as a result of the attack so far are two infants and women. It is not ruled out that the number of deaths may increase.
According to the Israeli army, the bombardments were directed against the residences of three senior Hamas commanders.

Sites such as the city of Jan Yunis in Gaza were hit by projectiles that left several residential buildings on fire, according to images released by the local press. Airstrikes continued in the early hours, targeting militant training sites.
After the attacks, the Israeli authorities instructed residents of the southern part of that nation to stay close to shelters, prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people in open spaces and more than 100 in buildings.

In this sense, they ordered the closure of schools in various places in the area for this Tuesday, fearing a counterattack, which represents another episode of increased tensions between Israel and Palestine.
