Cruise ships were one of the symbols of the start of the coronavirus epidemic. Almost every week, a ship found itself confined to the sea, rejected from its ports for fear of bringing the Covid-19, from the China Sea to the Gulf of Mexico, or even opposite Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône ). Three months after these painful images for the sector, the boats are still stopped. Between psychosis and closing borders.
To start a recovery, the sector will be forced to update its sanitary conditions. For the moment, she is still awaiting the green light from the authorities. “Cruising must return to normal activity. So are jobs, so are shipbuilding”, explains Erminio Eschena, representative of cruise passengers. In the port of Marseille alone, 13 ships are stationed, with on average around 100 people.
