The flagship event of July, the Tour de France 2020 will finally start on August 29, 2020 because of the coronavirus crisis. Apart from the dates, nothing has changed for the premier event of world cycling. So the start of the Grande Boucle will be given in Nice but on August 29, 2020 instead of June 27.

Namely: a stage intended for sprinters despite a false flat rising at the end of the course.

Namely: second and – already – last stage in the Pyrenees, before the first day of rest.

Arrival city: Grand Colombier
Stage profile: mountain
Distance : 175 km
To be continued: the return from the mountain with the arrival at the top of the Grand Colombier. An ascent of 17 kilometers which should allow the attacks of the favorites to the final victory.

Repos 2 : Monday September 14, rest in Grenoble.

Step 16 :

Departure city: La Tour-du-Pin
Arrival city: Villard-de-Lans
Stage profile: mountain
Distance : 164 km
Note: this second day in the Alps promises to be daunting with a succession of passes to climb. Climbers should be out to grab some big points in the quest for the polka dot jersey.

Step 17 :

Arrival city: Méribel Col de la Loze
Stage profile: mountain
Distance : 168 km
Namely: something new on the program for this alpine stage. For the first time in its history, the Tour de France will pass through the Col de la Loze, 21 kilometers at almost 8%… A monster.

Arrival city: La Roche-sur-Foron

To know: the repetition of the efforts should hurt the legs of the “convicts of the road” who will arrive at La Roche-sur-Foron at the end of a day at 4,000 meters of elevation gain.

Namely: a transition stage which seems intended for sprinters still present after the alpine episodes.

Stage profile: individual time trial
Distance : 36 km
Namely: 36 kilometers and the climb of the Planche des Belles Filles to win or lose the Tour de France. Last step before the Champs-Élysées, this time trial should be the justice of the peace for the 2020 edition of the Grande Boucle.

Namely: a last step for the honor for the yellow leader’s jersey but which could be worth dear in the quest for the green jersey of the best sprinter. Anyway, as usual, the show will be on the Champs-Élysées.
