“The brain cannot manage this flood of information”: this expert simply asks us to turn off

Is your ability to concentrate decreasing?
What happens is that there are more and more distractions around us and this is causing us difficulties because the brain is not well equipped to deal with them. The human brain first developed in a profoundly different environment where far less information was available and any new information could be critical. For example, a noise in the bush could mean that a tiger was about to jump. So, to adapt, the brain has evolved to always look for new information, but is programmed to focus on only one thing at a time. In other words, it is avid for information, but cannot manage this ‘flood’ that exists today. It’s a perfect storm that is resulting in a diminished ability to concentrate.
