Platz 10: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (2011)
Although it is only traded as a second-rate Gears-of-War clone by many players, the third-person cover shooter Space Marine was a bit of an enlightenment. Why should an armored superhuman hide behind a waist-high wall? So get away with the little walls and get into the fray, that was the motto of Space Marine – and it worked completely. Instead of regenerating life points while under cover, you gained hitpoints by defeating opponents. Storming forward with the chainsaw sword or thrusting down on the fiends with the jetpack just felt powerful at the time. In addition, there is an exciting story during the dark heyday of the completely insane Ultramarine Captain Titus, who jumps out of a spaceship and beats up hordes of orcs on the deck of a flying pirate ship – and that’s just the tutorial!
