This Saturday, Ligue 2 is already back, a week before Ligue 1. Impossible for us not to think back to the last two seasons. This match in full sun against Dunkirk in 2020, for a first defeat, or even against Ajaccio last summer, in front of barely 4,000 spectators (2-2)… We remember the disaster of our relegation in 2020 and we measure the distance traveled since. We remember the fears we had about returning to Ligue 2. The prejudices were omnipresent: a physical championship, not very technical, where it is difficult to climb, especially without any recruits experienced in this type of game. And yet, the Tèf came out of it with rigor and originality.
For two years, we experienced immense emotions. We saw some great matches at the Stadium or on beIN SPORTS. We saw our team perform, get beaten sometimes, score goals, very often. We saw tough opponents. We discovered Chambly, Quevilly-Rouen, Pau, we went to party in front of the Rodez stadium. We overthrew Auxerre and Paris FC. We tasted a hell of a fight in 2021 with Troyes, Clermont and Grenoble. We had the right to the famous barrage. We won’t talk about that again.
Two years later, we say to ourselves that it was not so bad to be down. We say to ourselves that it was nice to travel to unknown lands in Ligue 1. We say to ourselves that it does not play so badly in Ligue 2. We say to ourselves that we had a great time. So of course, we could have gotten ourselves into trouble like Nancy, Guingamp, Sochaux, Amiens, Valenciennes, Le Havre or Caen who all hope to find the elite. But the TFC has held its rank.
For us, now, it will be PSG, Rennes, Marseille or even Bordeaux. Ah, no, not the Girondins… We will continue to follow this Ligue 2, a magnificent championship. We will enjoy seeing our friends from Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne struggling to get back up. We also hope to see our loaned Pitchouns, Sam Sanna and Mamady Bangré, get noticed. Have a good season everyone and thank you Ligue 2, it was great!
