Teichmann beaten in the 1st round in Adelaide

Jil Teichmann (WTA 37) will approach the Australian Open (January 17-30) without having won a single match in his preparation.

The left-hander lost 1-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 to US qualifier Lauren Davis (WTA 95) on Tuesday in the first round in Adelaide.

Seeded No. 7 in the table, Jil Teichmann had the match in hand against a player who was beaten in straight sets by Zurich’s Viktorija Golubic (WTA 42) in the first round in Melbourne last week. It was indeed used to win the match at 6-1 6-5, after having already led 6-1 4-3 serve to follow.

Jil Teichmann collapsed in the ‘money time’ of the second set, dropping nine straight points to find herself trailing 5/0 in the tie-break. The Swiss stuck in the deciding set, sticking to 3-3 after losing her entry serve, but failed to erase the break conceded in the seventh game.
