Health officials recorded 487 Covid-19-related deaths in one day. That is a new high since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of new infections is slightly lower compared to the previous week.

IIn Germany, the health authorities reported 487 coronavirus-related deaths to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. This is a new high since the beginning of the pandemic, as the RKI figures from Wednesday morning show. The previous high was reached on Friday with 426 deaths. A total of 17,270 new infections with the coronavirus were reported within 24 hours. That is around 1,400 fewer than in the previous week, in which 18,633 new cases were added on Wednesday.

The number of daily deaths had tended to go up recently, which was expected after the steep increase in new infections. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 17,123 on Wednesday. The RKI has counted 1,084,743 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. It is estimated that around 779,500 people have now recovered.

According to the RKI management report on Tuesday, the so-called seven-day R-value was 0.89 (previous day: 0.91). This means that 100 infected people infect 89 more people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If the value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection rate subsides.

The RKI reports 379 deaths within 24 hours. The mark of one million Covid-19 cases was exceeded in Germany on Friday. The number of new infections is below the level of the previous week.

IIn Germany, more than 21,600 new infections with the coronavirus were recorded within one day. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Saturday morning, citing information from the health authorities, 21,695 new cases of infection were recorded within 24 hours. That is 1,111 fewer cases than the day before. Last Saturday the number was 22,964. The peak was reached on Friday a week ago (November 20th) with 23,648 reported cases.

According to the latest figures from the institute, the number of corona deaths in Germany rose by 379 to 15,965. According to the RKI, a total of 1,028,089 cases of infection have been registered in Germany since the start of the pandemic. The number of people recovered was 711,000.

The trend in the number of daily deaths had recently gone up, which was also expected after the steep increase in new infections.

According to the RKI management report on Friday evening, the so-called seven-day R-value was 0.93. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 93 other people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If the value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection rate subsides.

New corona infections slightly below the previous week’s level

EAs expected, the health authorities have again reported comparatively few new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). 13,554 new cases were transmitted within 24 hours, as the RKI announced on Tuesday morning. Last Tuesday the number was 14,419. On Friday, a high of 23,648 reported cases was reached. At the beginning of the week, the numbers are regularly comparatively low because, according to the RKI, fewer samples are taken on the weekend and therefore fewer tests are carried out overall.

In October and early November, the number of new corona infections reported in Germany rose rapidly. The value has now leveled off at a high level for about two weeks. The decline hoped for after the partial lockdown came into force has not yet been clearly discernible.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted a total of 942,687 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany (as of November 24th, midnight). The number of deaths related to the virus rose 249 as of Tuesday to a total of 14,361. The RKI estimates that around 636,700 people have now recovered.

According to the RKI management report on Monday, the so-called seven-day R was 0.97 (previous day: 1.03). This means that, on average, every person infected with Sars-CoV-2 infects almost one other person. The value represents the occurrence of the infection eight to 16 days ago. If it is below one for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Decline in new infections and corona deaths in Hesse

Noch on Friday the Robert Koch Institute for Hesse reported 2325 new coronavirus infections and thus a record. There were also double-digit Covid 19 victims. At the beginning of the week, however, the numbers are considerably lower. The federal institute responsible for combating the disease recorded only 552 new cases. There are fewer than in about a month and a half. A week ago there were almost twice as many.

Thorsten Winter

Business editor and internet coordinator in the Rhein-Main-Zeitung.

The new infections correspond to about five percent of the new cases in the federal government. But Hesse makes up eight percent of the total population. In the past, the centrally located federal state often had a higher proportion of new infections than the proportion of the population would have expected. Hesse was therefore represented disproportionately. In this respect, too, the current information from the RKI is pleasing.

It should be taken into account: Fewer people are tested for the coronavirus on weekends than during the week. In addition, there is a delay in reporting because not all health authorities pass on their fresh data. That is why there is regular talk of a “Monday dent”. The value of the current numbers will have to show up over the course of the week. Especially since large parts of Hesse are at the highest warning level according to the state’s escalation concept (see map); this is especially true for southern Hesse.

The city of Offenbach remains one of the hotspots in Germany. The RKI currently reports 307 cases within a week with less than 100,000 inhabitants. That is a minus of no less than 62 points on Sunday. For Frankfurt there are 178 to book after 190. As the head of the health department Gottschalk says in the FAZ interview, there should be two vaccination centers in the city. For the Offenbach district there is talk of 230 after 253. In the Groß-Gerau district, the central value stagnates at just under 220 according to the RKI website.

As the authority further reports, six more deaths in connection with the pandemic are to be mourned. But that also means a significant decrease compared to the previous days and weeks. Conversely, around 1300 people are now considered to have recovered, although the RKI only estimates this number. All in all, 48,200 of the 76,341 infections registered so far are considered over. 1033 people officially died as a result of a Covid-19 infection.

According to data from the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine from Monday morning, 326 corona patients were in intensive care units across Hesse. 195 of the patients are therefore ventilated. A total of 83.18 percent of all operable intensive care beds in the state are occupied, as reported by the dpa.

The Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs publishes an overview of the corona development every day, broken down into districts and urban districts. It refers to figures from the RKI. In the first weeks of the pandemic, it also took into account data from the Hessian state examination and investigation office in the health system at the Gießen regional council, to which the health authorities have to report the new cases. In order to create consistency, the ministry now only uses the RKI information.

From a Frankfurt perspective, it is fundamentally important: The positive tests taken at the airport are not assigned to the city. Rather, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, they are reflected in the statistics of the health department, which is responsible for the respective returnee. This can also be the Frankfurt office or another in Hesse, but also an authority in another federal state.

22,000 new corona infections and 251 further deaths

IIn Germany, the health authorities reported 22,609 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. That is a good 5000 cases more than on Wednesday (17,561), as can be seen from the information from the RKI on Thursday morning. Slightly more cases have been reported compared to a week ago. Last Thursday, the number of new infections reported was 21,866. The peak was reached last Friday with 23,542 reported cases.

The RKI has counted a total of 855,916 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose 251 as of Thursday to a total of 13,370. The RKI estimates that around 562,700 people have now recovered.

Because of the pandemic, politicians and the police union are calling for a ban on fireworks on New Year’s Eve this year. “The New Year’s Eve fireworks have to be canceled this year due to the corona. Alcohol, groups of people and party mood quickly join New Year’s Eve bolls, ”said the chairman of the German Police Union, Rainer Wendt of the newspaper“ Bild ”. But that’s not hip.

The CSU member of the Bundestag Michael Kuffer is also of the opinion that this year “New Year’s Eve gunfire and fireworks should be banned”. Because of the heated atmosphere in the country, it is too dangerous for people to run through the streets with explosives. The North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) also spoke out against firecrackers and rockets on New Year’s Eve. The decision lies with the municipalities.

Corona: RKI reports 16947 new infections

Dhe Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 16,947 new infections. That’s more than last Sunday when 16,017 new cases were recorded. The numbers are usually lower on Sunday, as the health authorities often do not provide all the data on the weekend.

On Saturday the value was significantly higher at 22,461, but was a good 1000 below the record on Friday.

107 new deaths

The total number of detected infections rises to 790,503. According to the data, another 107 people died from or with the virus. The number of deaths increased to 12,485. The number of people recovered was around 502,300.

According to the RKI situation report on Saturday evening, the so-called seven-day R in Germany is 1.05 (previous day: 0.99). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect a good 100 more people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Keep pressure on intensive care units

Even if the number of registrations is no longer rising as quickly, there are still many infected people in Germany and the number of patients in intensive care units continues to rise exponentially. According to the RKI, 3325 Covid 19 patients were treated there on Saturday, 56 percent of whom were ventilated. According to experts, the number can more than double.

Current news about the corona pandemic in the FAZ.NET live blog

It is known that about two percent of the newly infected have to be treated in intensive care units in ten to twelve days, said Gernot Marx, intensive care doctor at the Aachen University Hospital, on Friday on the radio station WDR5. These patients would also be in the clinics for a very long time – two to four weeks. “That means we will have to do with it in intensive care medicine well beyond December.”

The RKI makes detailed data available on its website and in the dashboard linked there.
