TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- Covid-19 attacked Central America almost simultaneously and within two months of its arrival the results of the pandemic in Honduras they are the most discouraging on record in the region.
The country has the highest case fatality rate, reaching 7.3 percent. It is the second in the region where the most positive cases have been reported and the fifth in the number of tests carried out. Honduras has the fourth place in recovered from Covid-19 and the second in active cases. THE HERALD made a comparison of the impact of the Covid-19 between Honduras and the countries of the region to establish an overview according to the result.
Honduras in the region
It has been 57 days with the Covid-19 in Honduras, 1,270 people have been infected and 93 never saw the sunlight again, for a sad fatality of 7.3 percent. The second place is occupied by Panama with 2.74 percent, product of 203 deaths and 7,387 cases counted.
Always with low lethality, Guatemala is in third place with 2.6 percent and El Salvador in fourth with 2.2 percent.

So far the country that has best managed fatality is Costa Rica with 0.8 percent, as a result of 755 cases and just six people dead.
For now, Nicaragua and Belize cannot measure the fatality of Covid-19, since they only report 15 and 18 cases, respectively, and to make the calculation they must reach at least 100.
An important factor to measure the impact of a disease in the region is the number of tests that are carried out and the calculation must be made based on a rate of 100,000 inhabitants, and in that category the country is deferred.
So far in Central America, the country that performs the most tests to detect coronavirus is Panama with a total of 35,556 for a rate of 8,241 tests per 100,000 inhabitants.
The second place is for El Salvador, which -according to figures revealed by its health system- has carried out 30,387 tests for a rate of 4,685 per 100,000 inhabitants.
On that line Costa Rica So far it has applied 14,121 Covid-19 tests and its rate has been 2,772 per 100,000 inhabitants. Guatemala has a rate of 402 tests for every 100,000 inhabitants as a result of 7,200 tests carried out, while 5,653 tests have been carried out in the country for a rate of 568 tests for every 100,000 inhabitants.
Belize is the country that has performed the least tests with 1,043, while the Nicaraguan authorities do not provide details of their work.
A health system cannot be measured without the number of recoveries that have been reported.
In this section Panama has the advantage with 726 people who beat the Covid-19, followed by Costa Rica with 413 and El Salvador with 201 cases.

Honduras appears in fourth place with 122 recovered, Guatemala has 79 and Belize 18.
For its part, Nicaragua, despite not reporting the number of tests for Covid-19 that it has carried out, does show that seven of its compatriots have expired the virus.
Adding the recovered and dead there is a special space for active cases, people who recover at home or are hospitalized for a mild, intermediate, serious situation or in the intensive care room. In this sense, the country with the most active cases is Panama with the scandalous figure of 6,458 people, followed by Honduras with 973, Costa Rica with 366, El Salvador with 201, Guatemala with 79, Nicaragua seven and Belize has just two.
In total, in Central America there are currently more than 8,200 active cases of the virus.
57 days have passed after the entry of the Covid-19
A total of 93 Hondurans killed, 1,270 infected and a case fatality rate of 7.3 percent is a cover letter that causes nightmares in the population.
There are 58 affected municipalities in 16 of the 18 departments and an imminent tour of the entire national territory is envisioned.

The departments of Islas de la Bahía and Gracias a Dios barely remain to present positive cases.
In the latter, the mayor of Puerto Lempira, José Saición, told THE HERALD that until now they had not received any test to diagnose coronavirus and as it is a new disease, the raw logic that they do not even know the test.
A higher contagion range among people from 40 to 69 and a marked case fatality between 70 to 79 years denotes the vulnerability of those who are older.
In detail, 36 children between 0 to 9 years old, 58 from 10 to 19 years old, 248 from 20 to 29 years old, 304 from 30 to 39 years old and 234 from 40 to 49 years old have been infected.
Already among the most adults, 172 cases are reported between 50 to 59 years, 121 from 60 to 69 years, 66 from 70 to 79 years and 16 older than 80 years plus four with unknown ages.
With 20.3 percent, people aged 70 to 79 represent the highest lethality by age registered in the national territory.
A total of 707 men (75%) have been infected by Covid-19 since last March 11 that arrived in the country and in the case of women there are 533 (24%), this shows that in the quarantine the ladies are more obedient to the restrictions issued by the authorities.
In Honduras there are currently 973 active cases, 744 of them recovering at home, 212 stable hospitalized, seven serious, 11 in intensive care rooms and 93
have passed away.
As for the most affected municipalities, there are 15, most in the Sula Valley, where infections have soared exponentially.
In descending order, the municipalities with the most cases and their percentages are: San Pedro Sula, 615 cases (50.42%); Central District, 197 cases (13.5%); Villanueva, 87 cases (7.3%); Choloma, 46 cases (3.57%); El Progreso, 32 cases (2.72%); La Lima, 32 cases (2.63%); Pepper, 31
The list continues with San Manuel, 24 cases (2.04%); Puerto Cortés, 23 cases (1.7%); La Ceiba, 22 cases (1.87%); Santa Fe, 15 cases (1.27%).

The top 15, Tocoa, completed nine cases (0.76%); Sparta, seven cases (0.59%); Intibucá, nine cases (0.76%), and Las Vegas, seven cases (0.59%).
The rest of the municipalities with cases represent less than 10 percent of those infected. In the case of the Covid-19 tests carried out so far, a total of 5,653 tests have been applied in the country.
It could be seen that 71.59 percent of the Covid-19 tests performed were negative and 28.4 percent positive.
In the first week of the disease in the country 756 tests were applied, the following week they were 723, later about 459 tests.
For the fourth week in Honduras, 891 tests were reported, almost double that of the previous week, and the last nine days, 2,196 Covid-19 tests were applied.
