Detroit A single Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Detroit has won a player more than a billion dollars (about 860 million euros). This is the third highest lottery win in the country’s history.
The number combination drawn on Friday evening, which authorized the money rain, was 4, 26, 42, 50 and 60 with the so-called Mega Ball 24.
The winning ticket was sold in a store of the Kroger supermarket chain in Novi, a suburb of Detroit, announced the Michigan Lottery. “Someone in Michigan woke up this morning with the life-changing news,” said a spokeswoman for the chain. She refused to say more. The Mega Millions grand prize had grown since September when a winning ticket was sold in Wisconsin.
The main prize of a US lottery has only been bigger twice: in January 2016, three tickets were drawn for a 1.586 billion Powerball jackpot and in October 2018 a 1.537 billion dollar jackpot of the Mega Millions was awarded to one ticket.
The amounts refer to the distributions in the event that the winner decides to have them paid out in 30 annual installments. Most of the lucky ones prefer to get the money in one fell swoop; then the sum in the case of the now cracked jackpot shrinks to 739.6 million dollars before taxes. The probability of hitting the Mega Millions jackpot is one in 302.5 million.
In the past few days, a Powerball jackpot had been hit with $ 731.1 million.
