TAG Heuer is present at the Watches & Wonders watch fair, the first face-to-face post-COVID show. The Swiss manufacturer presented several new products, some of which are automotive-related based on the emblematic Carrera and Monaco.
After two years of scarcity due to Covid-19 and the disappearance of BaselWorld, the biggest international watchmaking event, face-to-face watch fairs are resuming to the delight of enthusiasts, collectors and manufacturers. The living room Watches & Wonders is held in Geneva from March 30 to April 5 and brings together 38 major watch manufacturers, from A. Lange at ZenithPassing by Chopard, Roger Dubuis, Hubolt, Rolex, Tudor, Panerai, etc It’s actually the new name of the International Exhibition of Fine Watchmaking (SIHH)its 1st edition took place in 2020 and took place entirely online.
Among these brands, Day, this yeara key player in the sector, was present and unveiled six very interesting new products, including the spectacular Plasma Race composed of polycrystalline diamonds giving it a unique sparkling effect and the Aquaracer Pro 200 Solargraph to the movement powered by solar energy. But the ones that caught my attention the most are two automotive-related watches: the Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition and Monaco Gulf Special Edition. Presentation !
TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition
Day, this year is since February 2021 the official watch partner of Porsche (read here). After the chronograph Carrera Porsche Special Edition which celebrated the signature of this partnership, TAG Heuer presents this year the chronograph Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition.
This new piece, produced in a limited edition of 1,500, features a “full black” design enhanced with yellow. The 44 mm diameter case is in black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treated steel worn on a textured black calfskin strap with double yellow stitching. It is surmounted by a ceramic bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale to measure speed and the name “Porsche” in yellow. The pushers are in harmony, as well as the crown which receives a yellow ring. The back is engraved with the inscription “TAG Heuer special edition” and “One of 1500”.
We regret that each copy was not engraved with an individual number which has more value for a collector. It is equipped with a sapphire crystal which opens onto the essential “in-house” Heuer 02 automatic movement equipped with a yellow column wheel and a vertical clutch, a guarantee of precision in time measurement. It offers a comfortable 80-hour power reserve. You can admire the meticulous finishing of the components, including the Côtes de Genève decoration of the bridges, and the beautiful oscillating weight reminiscent of a Porsche steering wheel.
Its glittery black tricompax dial is inspired by the metallic color of certain Porsches. The two chronograph minute and hour totalizers echo the asphalt effect inaugurated on the dial of the Carrera Porsche Special Edition 2021 which evokes the circuit track; they have black needles with white tip and yellow luminescence. The small seconds counter incorporates a discreet date window. The black gold-plated hour and minute hands are luminescent and the central chronograph seconds hand is finished in yellow.

TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Edition Speciale
Day, this year also presented a new special edition of its legendary Monaco in the colors of his partner Gulf Oil (read here), the famous oil tanker and sports sponsor. Gulf is an icon in motor racing with its famous light blue and bright orange colors worn by the cars of the teams it sponsors. We remember the famous Mirage, Porsche 917 and Ford GT 40 who have achieved great victories in endurance.
She takes over from a beautiful version of 2017 (read here) and of thelimited edition unveiled in 2018 (read here) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gulf’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Monaco Gulf Special Edition is distinguished by its midnight blue sunburst dial and inaugurates in the “Monaco Gulf” collection a chronograph minute counter cut into sky blue and orange sectors, a white “Gulf” logo and a polished and rhodium-plated “60” numeral which is a reminder of the Porsche Gulf racing number. It is protected by a domed and beveled sapphire crystal reminiscent of the original Monaco from 1969.
This new special edition is equipped with the same engine as the Carrera, the caliber Heuer 02 already known in Monaco collection (read here) but embarked for the first time on a Monaco Gulf. It is partly visible through the transparent back which opens onto the oscillating weight enhanced with a special orange engraving, a color which also highlights the column wheel of the chronograph function.
The Monaco can be recognized by its square steel case extended by a calfskin strap with orange lining and whose microperforations evoke racing gloves.
