After the release of Luis Eduardo Cordero Díaz and Carlos Flores Santander, two femicides from Cuenca, the Cantonal Roundtable for the Eradication of Violence against Women was established in session on the morning of this Monday, March 6, 2023, in order to address this issue.
Present at this meeting is Sonia Salamea, Cristina Palacios’ mother and Flores Santander femicide victim, who questioned the lack of responses to requests for information about Flores’ stay in the Turi prison, which is of minimum security.
The family of Maribel Castillo, the last registered femicide victim in the city, is present at this session.
Cordero and Santander were released in early March by Judge Gina Zambrano, from the Montecristi Multi-Competent Judicial Unit.
On the morning of this same Monday, the governor of Azuay, Matías Abad, reported the recapture of Cordero.
The prosecutor Leonardo Amoroso is present at the session of the Cantonal Table; Gabriela Brito representing the mayor Pedro Palacios; the director of the Council of the Judiciary, Karina Alvarado; the president of the Provincial Court of Justice, Alejandra Vallejo, among other officials.
