Almost a month before the start of the Olympic Games, snowboarder Patrizia Kummer is traveling to China. It is still unclear whether the unvaccinated athlete can take part in the games.
Snowboarder Patrizia Kummer travels to Beijing this week.
There the unvaccinated Olympic champion from 2014 has to be in quarantine for three weeks.
“That is the logical consequence of my decision,” says Kummer.
It is still open whether the 34-year-old will be selected for the games at all.
The Olympic Winter Games in Beijing begin on February 4th. This week, snowboard Olympic champion Patrizia Kummer is traveling to China to put herself in a 21-day quarantine. Because the 2014 gold medal winner in Sochi is not vaccinated and can therefore only take part in the Olympic Games at all.
“After my personal decision not to be vaccinated, the quarantine is the logical consequence,” Kummer is quoted in a Swiss-Ski press release. «I respect the regulations of the authorities and the IOC. Now I want to concentrate completely on my sporting goals at the Olympic Games in Beijing – I cannot influence anything else. “
Although the 34-year-old meets the selection criteria, it is still unclear whether Kummer will also receive one of the four quota places. The official selection process for alpine snowboarders is to be carried out after the last World Cup races in Bad Gastein and Simonhöhe.
So now, Kummer will be isolated in her hotel room for 21 days. After the deadline, the Valais woman should join the snowboard team that has traveled up to that point. However, optimal preparation for the season highlight looks different.
