Marcel Hug missed the goal of winning two marathons within 24 hours with second place in Chicago on Sunday. On Monday, however, the East Swiss in Boston was in a class of his own. Hug prevailed in 1:18:11 hours. He relegated the American Daniel Romanchuk, winner of Chicago, to second place at 7:35 minutes.
Hug only missed his own course record by 7 seconds because he missed a junction shortly before the finish.
Sharply superior to victory
In the women’s wheelchair race, Manuela Schär was in a class of its own. The Swiss triumphed in 1:35:21 hours and was almost 15 minutes faster than the second-placed American Tatyana McFadden.
Among the runners, the victories went to Kenya. Benson Kipruto won the men’s 125th edition of the Boston marathon in 2:09:51 hours. Fastest woman on the streets of Massachusetts was Diana Kipyogei in 2:24:45 hours.
