Sjaak Swart looks back with a good feeling on Erik ten Hag’s period at Ajax. The former right winger already knows who should be the new trainer in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Ten Hag will make the switch to Manchester United in the summer, but first he wants to win his third national title with the team from Amsterdam. “He has performed well at Ajax”, Swart judges at Good morning Eredivisie van ESPN† “You hardly heard him and that was also his quality. There was a good team every time and there were good results. The only thing I sometimes think is crazy is the substitution. I find it strange that the substitutions are made so late. If someone doesn’t play well, you can just take them out, right?”
Swart has a clear preference with regard to the succession of Ten Hag. “Of course you hear a lot of names. I think the Schreuder brothers are very good, both of them. I have known them for years. They play good football and make their teams better. Dick is now doing very well at PEC Zwolle. Alfred is doing at Club Brugge also good. He knows how it works at Ajax and has done a lot of field work in that one season. I would like to see the two brothers, with John Heitinga there. And then move Heitinga on in one or two years.”
Hans Kraay junior thinks Mister Ajax ‘hits the nail on the head’. “No, this is not news”, responds Swart.
