A 6.4 magnitude earthquake on the open Richter scale It shook several areas of Panama and Costa Rica this Saturday without reports of damage or victims being registered so far.
The earthquake was recorded at 15.56 local time (20.56 GMT) within the Fracture Zone of Panama, with latitude 6.5 and longitude 82.8 and at a depth of 10 kilometers, reported the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.
For its part, el United States Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English), registered the 6.1 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter 130 kilometers south of Punta Burica, on the Pacific coast of Panama.
Local media reported that the earthquake was felt in the provinces of Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Panamá Oeste, Veraguas and Colón, and also in Panama City.
The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), which called for calm to the population, reported that its teams were monitoring the areas that were shaken, although it clarified that no damage from the earthquake had been reported immediately.
