Steam sets new record with nearly 28 million concurrent users – Gaming – News

Steam recorded a record number of concurrent users over the weekend. At a peak over the New Year’s weekend, nearly 28 million users were logged into the platform at the same time. The previous record was 27.3 million users.

The spike occurred on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 2, notes Reddit user Turbostrider27. Around 3 p.m. Dutch time, more than 27.9 million players were simultaneously logged in to the platform, according to information from SteamDB. That is a new record, according to SteamDB. The previous record of 27.3 million users dates back to November.

Of the 27.9 million users, more than 8.2 million people actually played a game and that is also a new record. Previously, that record stood at 8.1 million players, Polygon writes. SteamDB does not publish the most played games on Sunday afternoons. According to stats from Steam itself, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the most played Steam game at the time of writing, followed by DOTA 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, and GTA V.

SteamDB does publish the best-selling games of the past week. #1 is tactical SWAT shooter Ready or Not, which has been booming in popularity since its Early Access release on December 17. At number two is Game Awards winner It Takes Two, followed by Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, the Valve Index VR goggles and Project Zomboid.
