We want to make it possible for affected women to lead a life free of violence, to be self-reliant and independent. For many women who seek refuge in a women’s shelter, it is a matter of life and death. Fast and unbureaucratic support is necessary. We are therefore continuing to expand the violence protection network.

624 women and 640 children found shelter in women’s shelters in 2022
In 2022, 624 women and 640 children found refuge and protection in the (since December 2022) five women’s shelters in Vienna. The total of all stay days is 71,501 (Figures: Association of Vienna Women’s Shelters). There are 54 places in transitional housing. An AMS project aims to help women affected by violence back into independence. Under the motto: “Perspective: work empowerment for women affected by violence”, the living conditions of the women are to be improved – and the Vienna Women’s Shelters Association and the AMS are helping them to get back into working life – and thus to find their way back to independence.
