Squid Game Netflix might be one of the streaming service’s most popular series to date, but it could also be one of the most controversial.
Now, the South Korean show that sees hundreds of indebted students compete for a cash prize in a series of survival tasks masquerading as playground games has come under fire from school teachers who have concerns of Have the children replicating some of the challenges.
Many of the episodes contain very violent scenes in which the contestants are killed or seriously injured.
John Bramston Elementary School in Ilford has sent a letter to parents explaining their concern that children who have seen the show pretend to shoot each other on the playground as a way to recreate the show.
The letter reads: “Dear Parents / Caregivers: It has come to our attention that several of our children are watching Squid Game and Netflix ”.
“We have noticed more children starting to play their own versions of this game on the playground, which in turn is causing conflict within groups of friends.”
“Children who are watching this are exposed to graphic and realistic scenes of violence and unfortunately children are enacting these behaviors on the playground that will not be TOLERATED.”
“I’d like to let you know that this show is rated 15 for a reason.”

“NOT APPROPRIATE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN. Any child who imitates or demonstrates these behaviors, parents will be called and sanctions will be applied ”.
“Be aware of the dangers of this television show for your children and reinforce positive behaviors.”
“Please also explicitly share that pretending to shoot each other is not appropriate, nor is it acceptable. Please support us in keeping your children safe. “
Meanwhile, another school in Kent, Sandown, has begun offering additional lessons on violence and harm online in response to the popularity of the program.
A spokeswoman for the school said: “We are always updating our advice to parents and children, it is something we are constantly updating.”
“In response to this program and others, we have offered additional lessons on violence and harm online.”
Squid Game was originally written in 2008, but it took more than 10 years for the program to develop.
