Socrates Campos Lemus, one of the most controversial leaders of the ’68 Student Movement, dies

This Thursday, September 23, Socrates Campos Lemus passed away, former leader of the ’68 Student Movement, in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

Through his Twitter account, Alfredo Martínez, director of Mujeres magazine and columnist for the newspaper Tiempo, reported the death of Campos Lemus.

“It is with great pain shared with his wife Aurora and his sons Socrates and Karisma that we report the death of our friend-brother Socrates Amado Campos Lemus. I thank Gral. Tomás Ángeles Dauahare for confirming the death. Fraternal and supportive embrace (sic) ”, made it known.

A few days ago, on September 16, Alfredo Martínez asked for the health of Socrates Campos; however, he did not elaborate on the problem he was having.

“With my arms raised and prostrate on my knees, I cry out to heaven for the health of my friend-brother Socrates Amado Campos Lemus, historical leader of 68, a student movement used and betrayed by the political group headed by Echeverría just like today in the 4T (sic) ”, wrote.

It is worth mentioning that Campos Lemus was singled out as a provocateur of the repression and whistleblower of the student movement of 1968; although he assured that he had a clear conscience.

“I was said to have been a CIA agent. Make it good for me, right ?; that is to say, those of the CIA. Those of Selections They say I’m a KGB agent. Well, at least the salaries make me good, at least, right? ”He said in an interview for Televisa three years ago.
