Smolov played for Dynamo from 2006 to 2015. He also played for Anji (Makhachkala), Ural (Yekaterinburg), Krasnodar, the Dutch Feyenoord and the Spanish Celta. As part of the Russian national team, he played 45 matches and scored 16 goals. The footballer took part in the 2018 World Cup at home, and also played in the European Championship two years earlier.
