– 100 minutes of excess, ecstasy, horror
Full auditorium, full Sechseläutenplatz, full of sound: the Zurich Opera House has got off to a brilliant start in the new season – with Richard Strauss’ “Salome”.
When the world is out of joint, the moon is no longer safe either. It lies and then suddenly hangs like a double sickle in the Zurich Opera House, as a stage design for Richard Strauss’ «Salome», in which he is often mentioned: «See the moon disc, how strange it looks», sings inGuardian in the moon yellow one-piece right at the beginning in front of Herod’s palace.
There were other things that were strange that evening, too. So many people here! The opera house came in handy for the first time since the pandemic broke out sold out; Thanks to 3G and additional mask requirements, many have dared to come here.Thousands more watched the premiere on Sechseläutenplatz. And in the ditch sat the large orchestra that had been broadcast from the rehearsal room on Kreuzplatz for a year.
