Sea Voyages with Hurtigruten: Norway’s Pride and Shame – Journey

When more than 100 years ago a shipping line first connected the places on the more than 2,600 kilometers long west coast of Norway all year round, it was a new lifeline for many of the isolated communities: a reliable connection and so fast that the owners christened the line “Hurtigruten” , Express route. From the mountains in southern Norway to high in the arctic Kirkenes, the ships transported mail, freight and people, thereby helping to hold the long country together.
