MOSCOW, July 15 – RIA Novosti. After a mild form of COVID-19, antibodies can last for at least a year, according to Swedish scientists from Danderid Hospital in Stockholm. The work was published on the website of the clinic. The study involved unvaccinated volunteers who underwent coronavirus in the spring of 2020; among them were patients and employees of the Danderid Hospital. For a year, doctors studied human immunity after natural infection and took blood from more than 2,000 employees of the institution – about 19% were found to have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. In addition, doctors examined blood samples from more than a hundred patients with COVID-19. According to the results of the work, more than 80% of people with a mild form of the disease have measurable antibody levels a year later. Scientists also analyzed the ability of antibodies to counteract new variants of the virus and found that they can tackle the alpha and delta strains that are now prevalent in Europe, and Swedish doctors insist on following the authorities’ recommendations and getting vaccinated – even after COVID-19. According to scientists, the levels of antibodies in those who have undergone coronavirus increase significantly after vaccination. At the same time, researchers do not yet know how they correlate with the duration of protection.
