The third division dream of the “Schnüdel” has failed for the time being, the frustration after the missed promotion opportunity was huge: After a largely self-screwed relegation against TSV Havelse, 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 remains in the regional football league for another year. “It’s very sad for us, the sting of disappointment is deep,” said coach Tobias Strobl after the 0-1 (0-1) in the playoff second leg in Lower Saxony. Lower Franconia had already lost the first leg in their own stadium 0-1.
“We didn’t score a goal for 180 minutes, the opponent defended better for 180 minutes. That’s why Havelse deservedly rose, ”admitted coach Strobl contrite. “It is now difficult to look straight ahead.” Schweinfurt wanted to return to the third highest German division after 17 years in the Regionalliga and below. “We can also be expected in the next season”, announced the coach of the “Schnüdel”.
It was particularly annoying for the Schweinfurters that they were by no means without a chance against the team of coach Jan Zimmermann, who will train the second division Hannover 96 in the future and thus said goodbye to Havelse perfectly. Already in the first leg, the Schweinfurters conceded the goal with the last action of stoppage time. And in the second duel on Saturday, the champions of the Regionalliga Bayern missed a row of chances to score.
Kevin Schumacher scores for TSV Havelse
After ten minutes it could have been 3-0 or even 4-0 for the guests! But striker Adam Jabiri missed three big chances within a few minutes, and Amar Suljic should have scored too. “In the first half we had a little luck and a good goalkeeper,” said Havelse coach Zimmermann. Midfielder Kevin Schumacher made it better with a solid shot to make it 1-0 (35th minute).
Jabiri hit the crossbar three minutes before the break. During the half-time break, even former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, as a grandstand guest, paid tribute to the Schweinfurters as “the better team over long distances”. At Magentasport, the politician recognized: “Havel’s leadership is happy.” After the break, the big chances failed to materialize – and in the end Havelse cheered.
