Just yesterday, Samsung confirmed a bug in One UI 4, in which some Galaxy S21 models update with 60 Hz instead of 120. Especially in the USA, users have reported the bug that occurred after the update to the stable version of One UI 4 based on Android 12. The rollout started last week.

Today there is good news: The fix is already finished and is currently being distributed. The problem was that the refresh rate was reset from 120 to 60 Hz as soon as the display stopped registering inputs. This created what felt like a delay.

The new build has the version number G99xUSQU4BUK9, whereby the “x” differs depending on the S21 model. The new firmware for devices from the American provider Verizon is currently being distributed. The rest of the Galaxy S21 should follow shortly.

Since the above-mentioned error in switching the refresh rate seems to mainly affect US devices of the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra. It therefore remains to be seen whether the patch will be rolled out internationally at all. Initial user reactions were positive. The phones’ general responsiveness has improved a lot, although there still appears to be a residual lag when scrolling through third-party apps.
