At the end of the Turkish GP race Carlos Sainz was the protagonist of a nice gesture towards the Ferrari garage: in the radio team after crossing the finish line, the Spaniard wanted to hearten the Cavallino mechanics for the mistake made during his pit- stop and that it probably cost him one or two places in the order of arrival.
In Turkish GP Carlos Sainz was among the great protagonists thanks to splendid comeback that overtaking after overtaking led him to cross the finish line in eighth position after starting from the penultimate place of the starting grid due to the penalty imposed on him for having mounted the fourth seasonal power unit on his Ferrari. A small business which also earned him the title of “Driver of the Day“(the first since racing in Formula 1) of the Turkish stage won by Bottas. Yet during the race there was an episode that penalized him probably causing him to lose a position or two.
During the pit stop in fact the Spanish he wasted a lot of time due to the fact that he found traffic in the pit lane but also due to a small mistake made by the Ferrari men. After having changed the tires, at the moment of the exit from the lay-by, the 26 year old from Madrid had to wait for the pit lane passage of Mick Schumacher’s Haas who had just returned. It would therefore only be an unfortunate coincidence if it were not that even after the passage of the young German’s car, the Cavallino mechanics waited a few more seconds before sending it back on track for a total dwell time of 8.1 seconds. An eternity if you consider the fact that, as the Spaniard himself recalled in the post-race interviews, his final delay by Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly that preceded him to the finish line in the order of arrival was respectively 4.3 seconds e 7.2 seconds.
Despite this, however, at the end of the race, it was Carlos Sainz himself who encouraged the Ferrari men for that mistake which could have cost him a position (and important points for the world rankings). After crossing the finish line, his track engineer apologizes to him for what happened during the tire change: “Sorry for the pit stop“Riccardo Adami in fact says. The Spaniard’s response is ready and with a very calm tone he takes care to reassure the garage:”It’s all OK. Don’t worry guys, these things happen“were in fact the words of the Madrilenian. Un Nice gesture on the part of the Spaniard who seems to explain why he is already very popular within the Cavallino team despite having arrived in Maranello only at the beginning of this season.
