Group E: Bayern win at work

  • Dynamo Kiev 1-2 Bayern Munich

Dynamo Kiev scored its first goal in the 5th appearance in this year’s Champions League campaign. In the 70th minute, Denys Harmasch scored the 1: 2 final result. The team of coach Mircea Lucescu would have had a good chance of scoring earlier against Bayern. But both after a slip by Manuel Neuer (29th) and after a nice combination of Witaliy Buyalskyi and Mykola Schaparenko (47th), the ball did not land in the opposing goal. The German champion, on the other hand, shone with efficiency. Robert Lewandowski with a wonderful overhead kick (14th) and Kingsley Coman (42nd) made the difference before the break. Thanks to this victory, the team of coach Julian Nagelsmann is sure to win the group.

  • Barcelona – Benfica Lisbon 0: 0

Haris Seferovic could have become the man of the game against Barcelona. The international, who made his Champions League comeback for Benfica Lisbon after recovering from injury, narrowly missed the 1-0 in the 94th minute. After a perfectly played counterattack, Seferovic pushed the ball past the goal. So the game in which the home team at Camp Nou had more of the game ended without a hit. Barcelona remain in second place in the table, two points ahead of Benfica.

Group G: Wolfsburg and Salzburg harmless

Salzburg missed the opportunity to qualify for the first knockout round. The Austrians, who had to do without the ailing Swiss Noah Okafor and Bryan Okoh, lost 0-1 away to Lille. The only Swiss on the pitch had no chance with the only goal of the game: After a somewhat lucky combination of Burat Yilmaz and Jonathan David, goalkeeper Philipp Köhn could not fend off. David scored the decisive 1-0 from close range.

Wolfsburg suffered the second defeat after an extremely harmless performance. Over the entire duration of the game, the Germans showed too little and could hardly create scoring chances. Even the substitution of Kevin Mbabu in the 75th minute was of no use, the other Swiss Renato Steffen and Admir Mehmedi were not in the squad. This meant that an early goal from Joan Jordán in the 13th minute – after a free kick by Ivan Rakitic – and a late goal from Rafa Mir (97th) were enough to win. Everything is still open in this group, every team still has a chance of the last 16.

Group H: Chelsea dismantle Juventus

The Londoners inflicted their first defeat in the group stage on Juventus – and they absolutely deserved it. Chelsea played more actively, confidently and better than the already qualified Italians. In the 25th minute, Trevoh Chalobah took the logical lead, the 22-year-old scored from a corner. In the second half, the Premier League leader made the preliminary decision within two minutes: First Reece James scored 2-0 (56th), shortly afterwards Callum Hudson-Odoi increased after a nice combination (58th). In stoppage time, Timo Werner was also allowed to net. Thanks to the sovereign victory, Chelsea also qualified for the knockout phase.

  • Malmö – Zenit St. Petersburg 1:1

Even in the rear positions in this group everything is already clear. Thanks to a late penalty goal to equalize 1: 1, Zenit secured the Europa League place in the fight against Malmö. Although the Swedes took the lead in the 28th minute through Sören Rieks, it was the first goal ever in this group stage for Malmö. But Zenit got stronger. They awarded the first penalty awarded to the Russians (53rd), but Yaroslav Rakitsky scored the second penalty in stoppage time.
