«Romania risks becoming the Brazil from Europe”, headlined the Italian daily The messenger last week, worrying, and rightly so, about the alarming increase in the number of new positive cases in this country compared to the number of tests performed. And since last weekend, Romanians, like anyone who has stayed in this country, are systematically put in fourteen upon their arrival in Italy. The Romanian tennis champion, world number 2, Simona Halep, has thus given up her participation in the WTA tournament in Palermo, which begins on August 3.
By the end of the state of emergency in mid-May, the positivity rate (the percentage of new positive cases compared to the number of tests performed) had dropped to 1.79%. It has since rebounded continuously to an average of 5.53% at the end of last week. Between July 26 and 27, this rate almost doubled (from 7.40% to 14.58%), and while tens of thousands of Romanians, in
