Real-time strategy games on console do not have a glorious history! A new rumor is currently making the rounds that are calculating Age of Empires 4 is to appear for Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.

An Xbox port of the game from Relic Entertainment has yet to be officially confirmed, however Twitter user @ALumia_Italia has determined that “XIP_CAR_JANUARY_2022” is now visible on the Xbox Insider Hub for internal testing.

What does CAR mean? – Well, that doesn’t really stand for the car, but for the internal code name “Cardinal” for Age of Empires 4. So apparently we can do one Xbox console version of Age of Empires 4 expect.

Age of Empires 4 wouldn’t be the first Xbox game announced exclusively for PC to be ported to Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. Microsoft Flight Simulator was released for Windows PC in August 2020 and ported to Xbox Series X / S almost a year later, in July 2021.

This is the first time Microsoft has mentioned “XIP”.

Age of Empires 4 is currently only available for Windows PC, but apparently it is also coming to Xbox consoles. I’m really looking forward to the control with the controller (and of course the official announcement). Incidentally, the real-time strategy game is one of the few titles that has made it into our “Hall of Fame”.
