In a coordinated action, the federal criminal police, the federal prosecutor’s office and the Lucerne criminal investigation authorities were able to identify and break up a professional drug ring. This is announced by the Lucerne public prosecutor’s office.

A total of nine people were arrested during the operation. Including three main suspects and a drug courier. The accused come from Switzerland and Albania. Those responsible were arrested by the Lucerne police in December 2020 and March 2021. In 13 house searches throughout the canton of Lucerne, the police were able to secure 531 grams of cocaine, 128 grams of heroin, 48 grams of marijuana, but also extenders, weapons and alleged drug money in the amount of around 100,000 francs.

The accused are accused of having traded ten kilos of cocaine and 600 grams of heroin between April and December 2020. The drugs were imported from Albania and sold in central Switzerland. The main hub for the drugs was the city of Lucerne and the agglomeration, says the public prosecutor on request.

The dealers acted amazingly professionally when importing and processing the intoxicants. “Some of the accused were responsible for quality assurance of the imported drugs,” says Simon Kopp, spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office. The drugs were each tested before being resold. The dealers even sent individual loads back to Albania due to poor quality.

The drug ring organized both the import and the trade in drugs in Switzerland. The public prosecutor’s office is satisfied: “This is a big fish and a strong blow to drug organizations,” says Kopp.

Several of the suspects are serving early sentences. The presumption of innocence applies until a verdict is reached. The public prosecutor’s office conducts the investigation.
