The start of the 19th stage of the Tour de France, between Mourenx and Libourne this Friday, was marked by several collective falls. After the first, the Slovenian yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar vehemently expressed his annoyance with the riders who took the opportunity to attack.
The yellow jersey gets angry. The tension was palpable this Friday, in the middle of the day, at the start of the 19th stage of the Tour de France between Mourenx and Libourne. No less than three collective falls marked the first minutes of the race. The first came after just two kilometers.
At the origin of this collective bowl in the peloton, Brent Van Moer. Unbalanced on the left side of the road when he wanted to attack, the rider of the Lotto-Soudal formation led several riders in his fall, including Geraint Thomas but also Vegard Stake Laengen, teammate of Tadej Pogacar. While a second UAE rider is also behind, the yellow jersey then goes to the front of the peloton, with black eyes.
Kwiatkowski et Skujins sermonnés
Tadej Pogacar does not accept that runners took advantage of this collective fall to attack. And he intends to let it be known. The one we left triumphant on Thursday in Luz-Ardiden this time makes the police by lecturing the Pole of Ineos-Grenadiers Michal Kwiatkowski and the Latvian Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo), reproaching them for not waiting for the runners involved in the fall.
A scene that is reminiscent of the way Lance Armstrong put pressure on the peloton (notably on the Italian Filippo Simeoni during the 2004 Tour), even if the reasons for the anger of the American fallen for his seven victories on the Tour were of a completely different gravity since it was, in the background, suspicions of doping.
