Mask off, stick in your nose – and hope for a negative result. These days, a particularly large number of people are being tested for the corona virus in pharmacies. As a result, some companies are reaching their limits, as “CH Media” reports. Since it has been known that the Covid certificate will increasingly be used from next Monday, the situation has worsened.
“It’s a disaster. All of our appointments have been filling up since Wednesday afternoon, ”Claudia Meier-Uffer, President of the St. Gallen Pharmacists’ Association, told the newspaper. There are days when they do up to 300 tests a day.
«We’re really desperate. I don’t know what to do next, »says Meier-Uffer. “I understand the Federal Council’s decision, but it has not thought through the consequences. The Federal Council is trying to protect the hospitals from collapse – and for that we are collapsing. “

“People are annoyed”
The high exposure has consequences: the employees are exhausted and those to be tested are irritated. «The mood is beginning to change. People are annoyed and let our staff out of frustration, ”says Meier-Uffer.
There are always arguments that are anything but helpful for the situation. “There are situations in which you really get tired of working. In 30 years I have never had to say something like this, but I have never worked as reluctantly as I am at the moment, »continues the St. Gallen pharmacist.
It looks similar in Graubünden. The phone at the Steinbock pharmacy in Chur has been ringing continuously since Wednesday afternoon. “Everyone wants to be tested and everyone has a plausible reason. Whether it’s a wedding or a vacation, ”explains Monika Fehr, owner and president of the Graubünden Pharmacists’ Association.
“Not a day goes by that we are not fully booked”
Drilona Berisha works in a pharmacy in Wettingen AG. The demand for corona test appointments has been extremely high for them for a long time. “Not a day goes by when we are not fully booked,” Berisha says to Blick.
There has been no additional rush since Wednesday. “But I’m afraid that the test demand will increase as soon as the certificate is required,” she says.
Natalia Blarer, managing director of the Top-Pharm pharmacy on Zurich’s Europaallee, has a similar assumption: «I assume that the appointments will only increase next weekend. Many who are not vaccinated then need a test certificate, ”she says on request to Blick. So far there are no more tests than usual.
“Canton claims there is enough capacity”
In St. Gallen, the chaos with the great demand for tests in pharmacies is not new. “We have been advising the canton of the problem since spring and have asked for test centers to be built,” says the President of the St. Gallen and Appenzell Pharmacists’ Association.
There was no real reaction: “They react the same to all our inquiries and cries for help and claim that there is enough capacity.”
The canton of St. Gallen told “CH Media”: “The situation is being monitored. It is left to the pharmacies or other private providers to build up additional capacities. ” A test center is currently not planned. (gin)
