Pham and Pederson argued over fantasy league

CINCINNATI — Major League Baseball announced Saturday that it has fined and suspended Reds outfielder Tommy Pham for three games for his actions during an altercation with Giants outfielder Joc Pederson that occurred before Friday’s game.

Reds players were batting practice at Great American Ball Park when Pham and Pederson met in left field. Pederson said Pham confronted and slapped him over a fight that resulted from a fantasy football league the two participated in last year.

Several players got involved in the altercation, and both teams’ benches and bullpens emptied.

Perderson said Friday was the first time he has had contact with Pham in person and that he does not plan to participate in another fantasy football league with Pham again.

“For me, that’s over,” Pederson said. “I don’t think I’ll ever talk to him again. I don’t think he wants to talk to me. I guess. I do not know. I think that was the first time we spoke in person. It was a rare and unfortunate interaction. You arrive, and it was hard to refocus. It was a difficult day”.
